Story Behind the Song
My buddy Joe Cain brought this girl over to Broadwell Rd. She hadn't been in the house 5 minutes and started telling us how to raise our kids and what we should and should not do. We gave her 5 more minutes and started to show her the door.
Then there was also Mitzie & Lucy...Lucy said "But Mitzie, why are you screaming at me"?
The guy and girl having the fight is Mike Sturm from the band and Cyndi Rich, the former bass player. They always argued about who was a better bass player or something.
And the little baby is none other than
"Jake" Wicker. Now 20 months old, at the time he was 6 months and did great in the studio for 10 hours before that outburst. We just held him up to the mic and let him sing. Now when he hears the song, he is his greatest fan. Keeps wanting me to play it over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over...and I'm happy to do it!
Lyrics
Standing in my face, don't hear a word I say
Piercing metal eyes, I'm not that far away
No comprehension of distorted facts
Hear what you wanna see, Make me what you want me to be
Landing in my space, making moves that say
Cautious reactions, I'm far enough away
Obvious distraction with conflicted guilt
See what I wanna see, you're what I want you to be
(CHORUS)
Why are you screaming, why are you screaming,
Why are you screaming at me
Why are you screaming, why are you screaming,
Why are you screaming at me
The body just left, leaving uneasy peace
A presence lingers, the mind knows when to cease
Everyone's just like you, quick to conclude
Neither right nor wrong, it's a just attitude
