Imagine Missing Persons, KISS, and the Tubes run into each other at a senior high keg party and decided to put on a show... Big rock, baby... :)
    CD: threesongdemo   Label: Cloud City
Credits: Written by Cory Qualey and Scott Farrell. Cory Qualey: vocals, bass, backing vocals, left guitar solo / Scott Farrell: guitars, right guitar solo / Dave Anania: drums / Andra Suchy: backing vocals

    Story Behind the Song
Cory brought in this riff idea (the verse riff), a basic melody and a few lines of the first verse and it just took off from there. A couple months later, when it's time to record a final version, we bring in Dave Anania to lay down a stellar drum track, and local diva Andra Suchy to add a little beauty to the backups and, shazam... A song is born...

When we first started playing this song for people, we were nervous about it because it's got a lot of that ...mid-80s heavy synth pop (The Tubes, Missing Persons) energy in the way it drives. We were like "People might hear this and be TOO reminded of that period of time..." So we'd play it for people and they'd just smile through the whole song. The first 4 people who heard it ALL said it reminded them of high school. Specifically, PARTYING in high school. Like an up-vibe outdoor keg party way out in the country in 1985. We think that's a pretty cool headspace to go back and chill in... :)

    Lyrics
    So now you're running away
Put everything you need in a suitcase
    You've had enough of me
    And my selfish, boy-like ways
    Now you're taking off
    Leaving me here to die
What am I supposed to do?
You turn around and shake your head while I'm begging you to stay

Tell me why I work so hard for you
Tell me how to justify it
Look into my face before you go and listen close

I sleep in an empty room
Wake up to stare at the wall and the clock is ticking
I tried to call you a million times
But your answering machine says 'sorry I'm not at home'
You better call back soon, 'cause I'm running out of time
    Is it easier being away?
What is it about you and me that you find so hard to take?

Tell me why I work so hard to keep you
Tell me how to justify it
Look into my face before you go and listen

...Pick up the phone...Pick up the phone...
If you don't miss me, tell me why.
