Story Behind the Song
This song was inspired by stories my mother used to tell and the Pentecostal church down the street from my grandmother's house in Bogalousa, LA.
Lyrics
From Achafalaya,
To the streets of New Orleans,
Where wild Chapitoulas
In headdresses sing
There's no bigger fun
To be found in the land
Than to dance with your baby
To a zydeco band.
Now gather 'round!
All you sisters and brothers,
To love one another
Gather 'round!
Take your baby by the hand
Dance to the music of a zydeco band.
When old cousins come up
From Evangeline
They some holy rollers,
Lord, how they keep time!
Praising and wailing
Each night until dawn,
Then out on the bayou,
They're singing this song.
Now gather 'round!
All you sisters and brothers,
To love one another
Gather 'round!
Take your baby by the hand
Dance to the music of a zydeco band.
(accordian solo)
Now gather 'round!
All you sisters and brothers,
To love one another
Gather 'round!
Take your baby by the hand
Dance to the music of a zydeco band.
When it comes to loving
You know that it's true
There's only one thing
One thing will do
Acadian music,
Your sweet baby's hand
Will keep you a happy
Louisiana man!
Now gather 'round!
All you sisters and brothers,
To love one another
Gather 'round!
Take your baby by the hand
Dance to the music of a zydeco band.
Dance to the music of a zydeco band.
Dance to the music of a zydeco band.
