    Story Behind the Song
The use of the ride cymble sets the rolling feel of this track - together with a catchy figure of eight bass line creating a sense of something big turning slowly.
The chorus lunges in with a dramatic jangly guitar riff and the vocal sours above this.
The following pause allows the listener to draw breath before continuing with the march forward.
The guitar solo is blues based and developes with a beginning, middle and end and serves to add a frenetic quality to the song.
In feel this is probably the most digestable song I have for an American audience.
The actual message of the song is again a familiar theme for my work - that of the spirit transcending the material world. The eye of the storm of course is where there is peace and calm surrounded by chaos and destruction.

    Lyrics
EYE OF THE STORM by Jerry Hutchison © 13 January 2000

Yesterday can’t hurt you now that its gone
Roller coaster ride goes on and on
Something’s never change they just stay the same
You’ve just gotta take part in the game

    Eye of the storm

Yes the way is certain only if you’re strong
You must find the strength and then carry on
You may be amazed by what you find
Road ahead must leave the road behind

    Eye of the storm

Yesterday can’t hurt you now that its gone
Why does all the pain the pain linger on
Do you find it so hard to believe
You can’t see the wood for the trees

    Eye of the storm
