I introduce this song as hopefully the beginning of a new tradition of Irish Non-Drinking songs. It's the winding story of my recovery. The title is a play on my ancestry as the ire in me that was once necessary to bottle up comes from Cork county. The Isle of Iona is a small isle off Scotland near Findhorn that was a ceremonial center for the Druids. Kathleen the Silky Selchie Seal is my new wife.

    Lyrics
    IRISH JIGGER

    Oh mister O'Dinan
    keep on shining
    keep on smiling

    be the weeping willow tree
    billowing in the breeze
    little people in your leaves
    mischievous and green

there's a genie in the bottle
    he's a mean old soak
    he'll give you three swishes
and then you'll start to choke

on the size of your desires
and the wideness of your yoke
you tip the flask and in a tragic flash
everything you love goes up in smoke

don't pry the rye open and get soaked
you'll end up whining with the winos
albino white open all night ghosts
trading all the light for just one more

I've been lashed to the mast ears waxed programmed past
enticing sirens but now I'm sailing free at last
humbly aproaching the Isle of Iona

    Kathleen
    kiss of sweet Celtic sea
    hear my heartfelt plea
    be my silky sechie seal
and we'll swim and frollick in
    warm milky reverie

I'll hide your hide in my memory
deep in my chest slowly breathing
    life into this sordid story
with the ragged threads of old war stories
    we'll spin glorious golden poetry

    please don't pull the cork
you'll wind up falling to the floor
seeing messages through the bottle warped
poor me poor me pour me drinks till I'm sore

ten years spent off the deep end of dependency
an odd oddessy I'm finally coming home
cast away from polite society to the Isle of Iona

    my pixie mistress
appears and disappears in the mist
like a will o' the wisp
    her fiery kiss expires quick
the fickle sylph flees her tryst
and the convoluted plot takes another twist

you get what you pray for
    it may be delayed more
but it'll come before you're bored
lasso you with a golden cord
    and ride you swollen groaning
through to the sunrise delightfully sore

    please don't pull the cork
you know how the ire land ends at the shore
that angry place will abate and the whirling pool will not erase the sores
and you've been lost in that frothy sea dispirited before

    rode the junkie junket
till lack of love sunk it
bloated floating soaked to the core
    my wasted body washed ashore
on the Isle of Iona your smile shone
and my denial was finally blown
