Story Behind the Song
Written in 1996. Recorded live at Port Fairy folk Festival 1999.
This song is about a gay couple who go to the local dance. The star of this story, Raicho, gets a bit drunk, and starts dancing with a local sex worker. Raucous starts getting upset, they then have a bit of a lovers tiff. Sort it out, then both end up dancing with the sex worker. And a good night was had by all. A different angle on what is in fact a very common occurance for most drunk people.
Lyrics
Raicho came to the hall, he came to the dance hall with bells and whistles and a crown of thorns he came to our dance hall. Raicho danced with the whore, he danced with the tepid whore, with a skip of the feet and a wink of his eye he danced with the tepid whore. Raicho & Raucous hand in hand, do-si-do'd the whores and poors, with a laugh at the world and grin in the eye they danced with lovely whores. Then Raucous drank at the bar, he drank at the filthy bar - with a lift of the arm and a gulp down the gob he drank up all the bar. Raicho and Raucous hand in hand, skipped outside to jim jam land, with a share of a blanc and a light of a smoke they danced in jim jam land. Raicho & Raucous (stubbies and cans), shook their drunken filthy hands and with a twitch of the brain and a touch of insane they walked back in the hall. Raicho & Raucous lovers of sorts, drunk on love and drunk on port, kissed away their jim jam land and kissed away what's taught. Raucous winked his wicked eye, Raicho said - "Very drunk am I, and now that we're in love again I'm gonna dance with the whore".
