Story Behind the Song
For Pete Baker -- a former college professor and dear friend whom we lost to cancer this past Holiday Season. I would not have finished my degree if it were not for Pete. We'll miss you, old friend.
Pete can be remembered through contributions to the SUNY Potsdam Foundation Scholarship fund in Petes name (make checks payable to the SUNY Potsdam Foundation, note that your gift is for the Pete Baker Scholarship, and mail to Potsdam College Foundation, 44 Pierrepont Avenue, Potsdam, NY 13676 -- royalties and proceeds from sales of "I Will Be There" benefit the scholarship), gifts to Hospice of St. Lawrence County (contact Judy Chittendon at (315) 265-3105) and through your prayers for acceptance and tolerance world wide for all good human beings of character, regardless of the color of their skin, the God whom they worship, or their sexual preference.
May the lessons Pete taught us all live on in our hearts forever. See you in a better place, Pete!
Lyrics
I Will Be There
Words and music by Ray Agnew
Though my eyes see no more
Though my lips be still
In your hearts evermore
I pray this lesson ever will
Remain
Give of yourself everyday
Where there is wrong speak your mind
Be true to your heart in every way
And though others mock and cut, remain kind
CHORUS:
And my words will live in you forever
My voice will be with you every day
And with each and every righteous endeavor
That you may undertake
Think of love for my sake
And I will be there
And so my daughter and son
Its just goodbye, though not for long
I will meet you with The One
So for now remember me with wine and song
CHORUS
