Story Behind the Song
Roman Elegies by Goethe is a mediation and luxuriation in the darkness which lies beneat the eternal city, and the bright festival which is life itself. The work opens with a dance movement, continues with an aria, descends down into the vaults of the Vatican and then watches the sunrise over the hills.
