Story Behind the Song
After hearing great things about Line 6's (http://www.line6.com) digtal amp modeling skillz, and reading endorsements from Trent Reznor, Beck, Kid Rock and others, I went and grabbed a POD at the local music store (it looks similar to other guitar effect boxes and pedals).
I wanted to get a good feel for POD's different digital amp models, so I fired up a metronome loop and plugged up a Telecaster into the POD. As I continued to fiddle with POD's controls, I added a few more drum loops, samples and snippets to metro. The next thing I know, I've got a complete, 4 minute song. Whether its any good, that's your call.
Needless to say, POD is an amazing piece of technology. All of the guitar sounds you hear in "Faith" are direct from the POD into a soundcard - no amplifiers or mics were used whatsoever. Yep, those warm drive/distortion tones are all digital. Wow.
For traditional rock guitar ala David Gilmour, listen to the outro guitars at the 3:45 mark. For an edgier, NIN industrial sound, listen to the choruses (first one starts at 1:12).
