"Ancient Journey", began as a chordal "synthscape" sketch which I never intended to develop. Later, compelled by its musical possibilities accompanied by recurring visions of winging over vaporous Tibetan mountain terrain harboring thoughts on the "now and eternal", I continued evolving it until it finally became a piece of its own. |

Story Behind the Song
Composed in the spring of 1995, "Ancient Journey", which serves as a kind of musical preface on my tribute CD "Anthem to the Father", began as a chordal "synthscape" sketch which I never intended to develop. Later, compelled by its musical possibilities accompanied by recurring visions of winging over vaporous Tibetan mountain terrain, I did further work on it. As a result, and after considerable hours of additional tone sculpting and MIDI editing, the piece had finally evolved into a complete composition of its own.
Idiomatic with where my philosophical and aesthetic senses had been directing me during the preparation of the music for my father's "Resurrection Mass", I felt it would make an appropriate opening and I chose to include it on this tribute album which was released a year later.
