A song about Grandpa teaching the kids to sing their ABCs backward.
CD: It All Starts...   Label: Nomen Records
Credits: Larry Wolkan, Zack Wolkan, Gas Chamber Studios

    Story Behind the Song
Herbert Leslie Davis aka "WIldcat" fathered fifteen kids and lived in London, Ohio with his wife of over fifty years Marjie. Naturally, there were many grandkids for Wildcat to teach his antics. Lee wrote this song in order to pass on a unique legacy that his granpa taught him and all the other grandkids, reciting the abc's backward. Wildcat passed away in October of 1996, he was 95 years young. This song was written as a gift for Lee's family in tribute to Wildcat. Once the song got released into the public Lee noticed that kids were catching on to the challenge of reciting their abc's backwards and decided to go to the studio and make the song more palatable to the ear. Lee recorde the song with Larry and Zach Wolkan in their basement over a three week period. Jason helped out with the wording and rhyme and put together the original melody. This song is fun to sing

    Lyrics
When I was a young boy, I was raised in Ohio

My parents always taught me to respect my elders so

They called my grandpa Wildcat, he was spry as he could be

How he loved the lord and you never got bored being in his company

Grandpa had a way with words just like a poet knows

And when he talked we all would listen cause it helped all of us grow

But the thing I remember most was how he said his abc's

So I learned to say them without a hitch to carry on his legacy

    ZYXWVUTSRQPONMLKJIHGFEDCBA
Wildcats abc'z they'd bring you to your knees
Wildcats abc'z they start with xyz'

Grandpa was'nt educated but was brilliant just the same

He got his strength from god above and the kids that bore his name

Wealthier than most but not in dollars gems or gold

But by workin hard each day he never did grow old

Oh the townfolk loved him so he knew not a stranger anywhere

And if you'd looked into his eyes you'd know he'd really cared

But the thing I remember most was how he said his abc's

So I learned to say them without a hitch to carry on his legacy

    ZYXWVUTSRQPONMLKJIHGFEDCBA
Wildcats abc'z they'd bring you to your knees
Wildcats abc'z they start with xyz'

Now that I'm a grown man I look back on those great days

Of all the lives that grandpa touched with his loving ways

And all us grandkids know without a doubt what we must do

To pass on Grandpa's spirit to our kids and to be true

And when its time for us to pass and meet the lord above

Grandpa will be there with open arms so full of love

And the thing I'll remember most was how he said his abc's

So I'll learn to say them without a hitch to carry on his legacy

    ZYXWVUTSRQPONMLKJIHGFEDCBA
Wildcats abc'z they'd bring you to your knees
Wildcats abc'z they start with xyz'
Wildcats abc'z the sound will make you freeze
Cause you can't go another day without your abc'z that way
