We journey into the far future, when the Metropolis is near its end. It has fallen into decay due to mans ignorance of the machines that built and run it.

    Story Behind the Song
Now we visit the Metropolis in the far future, near it's end. Man's innocence in nearly gone, he is more machine than man in his thinking and "drives".
There are two basic "Themes" in the song, both use the same Melody line. One (the piano) is man in all his ignorant bliss. The other (the glass pad) is the "Metropolis" in all of its decay. The Metropolis theme is like the "man" theme because the Metropolis was built in mans image, and is consequently flawed like him. The themes have various interaction throughout the piece and they intertwine with one another, who made who?, who is more artificial now, the Metropolis or man, who has more soul?. At 5:00 the song starts to "break apart" new themes come into play and "fight" with the main themes. The piano struggles to remain intact, but underlying sound slowly overtakes it. The final "theme" sadly, finally overtakes both of them, it is coarse and edgy. The song finishes the cycle as the Metropolis finally collapses into Ruins and man kind once again starts over, and through the collapse, finds his innocence once again, but it is forever tainted by his fall from grace.

    Lyrics
And we rasied our cities to the heavens
And called ourselves Gods as we sat upon on throne of technology
But in doing so, we lost our souls

And our technology soared as our morals decayed from within
and our humanity collasped, no longer able to carry it's own weight...

We are born of the City, as we bask the rays of it's decay...
