Story Behind the Song
This story is secret. Even I don't know.

A Sentinel
The Lying City EP
the devil aproached me and asked me to play a game
of fate, of chance, leave my tag on heaven's gate
under the circumstance
I asked what was in it for me, he told me
he'd grant me three wishes if I played the game properly
I said, aight - and even though my instincts said
don't, we played the game, but only after several rules
were made known
first rule was no cheating, but the second rule caused a buzz
it's that I'm not allowed to tell you what the game actually was
the third rule was more notorious than B.I.G -
- if I lost, the devil got to take my soul from me
but I'm a hot headed fool, so on this game I did embark,
me and the devil drew turns from a pack of tarot cards
and we played the game, until the sun had turned to blood
and then the devil smiled at me, and declared that he had won
I said no way man, you cheated, cause I saw you do it, and he
tore a hold through my chest, and pulled my soul out through it
he was smiling again, and said he'd give me one last chance
of redemption, a little bargain to give my soul an exemption
from damnation, he said I could return to the living world
if I lived only in greed and self indulgence and fixation
and I asked, what's the point? What the hell's this gonna do
for you -
he replied: because the entire planet now lives as I want them to
but its the ones like you who stayed true to you own soul,
the others might go to church, but they still under my control
because I can rule this world by stealth, and another thing,
once I get you all, I plan to make society destroy itself
my body became numb, yet somehow racked with pain though
images appeared of a serpent and a rainbow,
and a crusifix, and a pentagram and a snake around a stick
the devil said decide which one you serve and choose it
I claimed I served no one but myself, I had no sect
- and the devil said then why are you wearing a cross around your
neck
I looked him in through the eyes, past his twisted soul and said "come
here"
but I'm not aloud to tell you what I whispered in his ear
When I told him my reasons, he reacted that this was blashpemy
and then he bent closer, and whispered something back to me
suddenyl I couldn't breathe and I was panicking and scared
with the horrific vision, that the devil had shared
he was no longer smiling, it appeared that he was wary from
his secret too, but I could never in a million years share
this secret with you
- It was if the gleam of hope in my mental had been sucked out
the said "Here take your soul and get the fuck out"
and left me in torment, with the terrible secret revealed to me
techinally I had won the game, but I was still left in misery
I want to share this secret with you, but that would break my oath
and you're better off not knowing -
- not even hints can be given
- so don't ask
