Story Behind the Song
Manchester is my Home Town/City. Some have said that this is a sentimental song (Trevor Ward Granada TV) and so be it.
It’s the way I feel about it as I am sure others do about their HomeTowns.
Check out the end Guitar Solo by Keith Marriott, it still gives me a shiver when listening to it.
Lyrics
It’s night, I’m alone, on an Old city street
In the Cold, Slightly damp, Yet I feel so complete
There’s a sense in the air.It exists nowhere else
Only here in my home town
It’s arms always open to me.
Well I’ve been many places, seen many things
From the mountains of Switzerland, New York and it’s sins
I’ve seen Tokyo’s pollution, Thailand’s crystal sea
But there’s only one place
Where I’d rather be (and that’s)
Manchester Oh Manchester
Your name hardly rolls off the tongue
When I’m here on you’re streets you care for me, Protect me, My whole life long
I walk slow past the library into the old square
As the clock strikes Eleven I turn and I stare
There’s a crowd by the statue they’re out for the night
I walk on toward the station as they smile and ask if -
I remember these streets from being a kid
I would follow the people to see what they did
And sometimes I’d stop like I have done tonight
To feel the warmth of the city
That’s always been my guiding light (and that’s)
Manchester Oh Manchester
Your name hardly rolls off the tongue
When I’m here on you’re streets you care for me Protect me my whole life long
Manchester Yeah Manchester
Well Sydney may bask in the sun
But to all true Romantics and Artists alike
You’re Poetry
Goes on and on
