	Lyrics The heart of Christian giving is love. Yes, there is the Biblical standard of the tithe. Biblical teaching about the tithe gives us some indication as to the amount and where we give. The tithe denotes our gift of the "first fruit" of our labors, which is ten percent. It also denotes where we give. That is, we give our tithe where we are spiritually fed. That is our church home. But, the tithe doesn’t tell us anything about why we give. Why do we give? We give because we love. Why does a mother give birth to her child? Love. Why would a father work to provide for his family? Love. Why is the desire of so many parents to give their children even greater opportunities in life than they had? Love. Why does a Christian stop for a stranger? Love. Why does one who is hurt forgive the perpetrator? Love. Why would one spend one’s life in the aid of others? Love. Why did John the Baptist step aside for Jesus the Messiah? Love. Why did God constrain himself with flesh? Love. Why did Jesus give His life, the innocent for the guilty? Love. Why did Jesus give his life for you? Love. Why would you give money for the ministry we share at Saint James? Love. We give because we love Jesus. Why do we love? 1 John 4:19… That is the heart of Christian giving. Arthur 1 Cor. 1:18
