Story Behind the Song
The motivation for the song is a ficticous, yet very real, neighbor that seems to enjoy collecting VW bugs. Instead of keeping them in his garage or possibly the junkyard, he keeps these ugly, rusting, nasty cars in plain view of the neighborhood. Not only that, but he builds a fence to block his view of the eyesores, yet everyone else still has to suffer. Combine this with the fact that he's not a very nice person anyway (hypothetically), and you've got yourself a great subject for Rock & Roll. Sorry, Albert.
