Story Behind the Song
My brother Ron made up the title to this song during a game of Beyond Balderdash on Christmas Day 1999. I wrote and recorded the song the next day because it tickled my funny bone. Hope you like it.
Lyrics
Don't Run Over My Motorcycle
-Jeff Schmitz Dedicated to his brother Ron
I staggered home this mornin',
was just about half past two,
Walked my Harley down the street,
so's I don't wake up you,
I parked it in the driveway
in front of the garage,
Just about the time
I heard you fire up the Dodge.
I ran through the doorway,
passed the table set for two,
You'd fixed my favorite dinner,
cornbread and rabbit stew
As I came into the garage
you were shifting into gear
And I fell down on my knees sayin'
"just one favor dear...
Chorus:
Don't run over my motorcycle,
I beg you darlin' please
I'll buy you a new dress and
Plant that apple tree
I'll go to church on Sunday's
and say that Rosary,
Please don't run over my motorcycle,
it means a lot to me
You said you're sick and tired
of puttin up with me,
You told me just where I should put
that stinkin' apple tree,
You said your mother warned you
about marrying a liar
And if you had a dollar for
every one you could retire
Well darling it's all true but
please let me explain,
I never, ever meant to cause you any pain,
Then fire filled your eyes as
you shifted into gear
And I'm still begging on my knees,
saying "just one favor dear...
Chorus:
Well you ran that sucker over
fore I could say no more,
You dragged down the drive way,
and half way to store
So guys learn a lesson from a
man who's learned it hard
If your comin' home late,
park your Harley in the yard.
