Story Behind the Song
the motivation behind surface was "change". Some changes we control, others control us. The conflict between the two inspired the song.
Lyrics
the visitor awakens, surface in your dream, one slip beneath your sleep
fading picture dissappear into the haze though crushed beneath your feet
uninvited in the gates around your heart so close so close to fall apart
time and time again fingers in the light
waiting in the night, waiting in the night
invisible distraction, easily forgotten
please, no more words, you say
take all i have to give, just burn it down
don't let me stand in your way
and punish without reason like tides to the shore
i'll drown you in forgiveness
what i was or what i could have been
is of no consequence to you now, you say
it's this fear of the inevitable
the parting of ways
your smile as you walk away
two turns and you're right back where you used to be falling free from me
(I'm not what you want me to be)
i could sit in your room at your feet
and still feel you more
than a million miles away from me
and time is gone
and time will turn
and time is the fire
in which we burned
