    Story Behind the Song
This is a true story of the day I was stopped in my tracks by some ghost, literally forced to sit down by an allergic reaction to the air as I crossed the corner of 17th street and Capitol in Sacramento. The Bermuda triangle refers to the Comptons market, the food bank, and the punk house that used to be there.

    Lyrics
    heat still in the sidewalk
all of the faces read suffering
we felt so joyful in the portland-style rain
    i thought i'd breathe better

    i approached a corner
i should've noticed how slow it was
    the air caught my throat
and knocked me to the ground
    it's our bermuda triangle

my back to the market wall
all styles of poverty passing me
    "sing" said the wind
and write these folks a song
    i pushed open my throat

    sing nitengale sing

looking to my left and i'm wondering
    where the sidewalk ends
looking to my left and i'm wondering
    where the sidewalk ends
patterns in the trees above me
    represent the hearts of men
    greener on the tree
or soggy sewage in the gutter
i didn't think the rain would come
    until the end of summertime
i coughed and cried for humanity
still wondering where it all ends

a man stopped in to listen
"how did you learn to play that thing?"
    well, i don't know
    i guess i taught myself
well, he seemed to be satisfied

but now here's more of an answer
fate strikes the notes on my guitar
words flow from dreams i overhear at night
    no, not only my dreams

    hey, all of you people
spill all your stories into the street
i'll scoop them up with the dustpan of my brain
but, will the road be cleaner?

    sing nitengale sing

no one could explain to me
the reasons why i couldn't move
    or diferentiate the sounds
of planes that crashed below me
well, no one died here recently
unless thy're just not telling me
    that millions have died
    and are buried here
    still wondering
    where it all ends
    where it all ends
    sidewalk serenade...
