    Story Behind the Song
People talk a lot about how much they need their freedom, but you have to understand that what you are really asking for is a kind of freedom that doesn't exist, ie to have people when you want them but not have them when you don't want them. That sure would be convenient, but the cost is high when you discover that you don't get love when you don't give it.

    Lyrics
oh the fire from the sun fades to cold
    feel me shiver
    keep me warm
    but there's nobody else here
    only me and my fears
    and my isolation
    how it grows

and the water forms a pool of my sweat
    i'm out on this ocean
    feeling free
    cause there's nobody else out
    only me and my doubt
    and my independence
    i row my own oars

i walk alone with all the faces i have known
    friend i never found you
    love i never really knew
don't look for me because with you i can't be free
    i couldn't lose the stubbornness
i never really was your friend

and the water drips down behind my eyes
    roll up inside myself
    i barely see
    cause there's nobody else in
    only me and my skin
    and my understanding
    behind the veil

i'm on a moonlit path and there's no coming back again
i'm on a moonlit path and i see a clearing up ahead
i'm on a forest floor and you can feel my urgency
i see a garden wall but i'm not jumping over it

i walk alone with all the faces i have known
    friend i never found you
    love i never really knew
don't look for me because with you i can't be free
    i couldn't lose the stubbornness
i never really was your friend
and i should have known that i'd be doomed to walk alone
be careful what you wish for
if it's freedom there's a price to bear
how many times must i live and learn again?
    solitary freedom
hold my hand and unleash my tears
