Story Behind the Song
This is a song that came to me in a rush
one day on the way from home. Most songs
come to me that way. It's a simple song
to my daughter, asking her not to forget
me as she grows older. The tune was first
written in an "electric" form, but then
I decided it sounded better acoustically,
with the autoharp bit in the middle, which
wound up somewhat buried.
Cheryl liked it, so I guess that's all that
matters! Hope you like it too.
Lyrics
Cheryl, you've grown up so
Cheryl, your daddy loves you so
Cheryl, the twinkle in your eye
Cheryl, sometimes you make dad cry
Whatever you do don't hurt my love
Whatever you go, don't forget my love
Remember I'm there if you need someone
Remember daddy's here.
Cheryl, you've all grown up
Cheryl, you're daddy's buttercup
Cheryl, too soon you'll go away
Cheryl, then daddy fades away
Whatever you do don't hurt my love
Where ever you go don't forget my love
Remember I'm there if you need someone
Remember Daddy's here.
Whatever you do don't hurt my love
Where ever you go don't forget my love
Remember I'm there if you need someone
Remember Daddy's here.
Cheryl, you've grown up so
Cheryl, your daddy loves you so
Cheryl, the twinkle in your eye
Cheryl, sometimes you make dad cry
Whatever you do don't hurt my love
Where ever you go don't forget my love
Remember I'm there if you need someone
Remember Daddy's here
Cheryl, you've all grown up
Cheryl, you're daddy's buttercup
Cheryl, too soon you'll go away
Cheryl, and then daddy fades away
Whatever you do don't hurt my love
Where ever you go don't forget my love
Remember I'm there if you need someone
Remember dad
Remember dad
Remember daddy's here
