Story Behind the Song
Originally released on Nathan's "Drifting Away" CD (Sharewater Records), which features the drumming of John Martinez, "Cry" was the first song Noise Nation Recorded because of it's strong message.
Lyrics
In our forgotten hood, you know the 'hood was always tough.
Never did say "uncle", always played it rough.
The battered broken bones, the swollen blackened eyes,
Could never ever make the toughest of us cry.
We held it in, we stuck it out.
We swore our oaths, we had no doubts.
If a tear should form in our eyes,
It was just the wind 'cause men don't cry.
The good ol' days were never all that good,
They didn't really last, who said they should?
Should've learned a little something from our deadly little games,
But all we learned was heart-ache and the bottom-side of pain.
We buried one-we buried two,
Any dreams we had-we buried them too.
As the brothers stood side by side,
And finally learned to cry.
CHORUS:
Cry like a man. (Repeat)
I've put away my colors, gave away my name.
Still don't do the 9 to 5, but man it's just the same.
Now and then the strangest things, seem to set me off.
A Vet inside his wheelchair, the way my baby walks.
Senseless headlines, blood runs white.
Mindless violence flowers at night.
So I shrug my shoulders, let go a sigh,
Then I break on down and cry.
CHORUS
