Story Behind the Song
The biggest debate on this tune, was whether of not to use the child's voice at the top of the song. Jim (the drummer's daughter) lended her voice to the cause. A child's voice saying the record title (Charge the Head) is meant to kind of bookend the theme of "Guillotine Me" which is utter meltdown-resulting from too much head charging!! Lyrically, one of the more "conceptual" songs on the album.
Lyrics
Once I am in my head again
I’ll be fine don’t you take the time
Thinking ‘bout my
Head, if I rip it off my neck
Hide it deep somewhere
I can’t find it
If their eyes fall upon my face
Would I scare the children would I scare the saints
I don’t want to see
I don’t want to be hearing
I don’t want to speak
I don’t want to be thinking
Away with all, guillotine me
Away I am
Stop the bliss my lips create
I fantasize, masturbate
I don’t want to feel
I just want to believe in
Idolatry, self gratification
Away with all, guillotine me
Away I am
Touch me, hold me
Please console me
Sweetness sours, distance is power
Silence won’t tear, you’ll get nowhere
Leave me, leave me, wanting better
Away with all, guillotine me
Away I am
