    Story Behind the Song
This song was inspired by Arthur Currie who in WWI figured out that those unfortunate souls in the frontline did indeed have the capability to think for themselves.

    Lyrics
    Verse 1

I used to have the answers,
now all I got is questions
    Is it just perception
    or is something wrong?

    Life's just going faster
    the same with my intentions
    I don't need conventions
    to know that something's wrong.

    Verse 2

    Maybe I'll soon find out
    it's just an illusion
    designed to cause confusion
    and me down

    Hauled away so white coats
    can make observations
    maintain my concentration
keep my feet on the ground

    Chorus 1

    Imperialistic tides
    to arms, pick your side
in a trench your own rifle takes your life

    Verse 3
This sure don't look nothing like Saskatoon
In a field in France with the cold dark moon
I ain't slept in three days in a trench of mud
Smelling like rat's urine, cigarettes and blood.
We gotta, lotta wounds, no pain killing drugs
We gotta deck of cards and a box of slugs
We gotta lousy rifle couldn't shoot the ocean
gotta, keep it together through this deadly commotion

    Chorus 2

Save us from suffering this plight, honestly
    Hughes's head's not right, Arthur
can't you help me live through one more fight?

    Verse 4

    I'm done with these trenches
    done with this waiting
sick and tired with all these pompous Generals debating
I'm sick of this rifle, the slug always jams
I'd probably be better off just using my hands
I gotta stay awake gotta live 'till dawn
I gotta keep my heart in and make it to Mons
I gotta keep my eyes open when I pray
Hope General Currie shows us the way

    Chorus 3

    Attrition ain't right, he said
    "use shells not lives," Arthur
can't you help me live through one more fight?
