Story Behind the Song
I was stagnating into a 4/4 time signature. So I arbitrarily assinged three measure in a row with different times: Treble Clef had 3/4, 4/4, and 5/4 with the Bass Clef in 2/4. I did not adhere to any formal manner of beat pattern in each of these time signatures. The purpose was to force myself into something different. I should explain that each stave corresponds to the same bar line above and below it. This means that there are 3 beats, 4 beats, 5 beats, and 2 beats, respectively, within the same vertical alignment. Thus each measure, linearly, lasts the same amount of time. At first I thought I might get a phasing effect, but instead got what sounds like confusion. I don't know whether this can be played by musicians. With phasing one can get locked into a beat pattern over a long period of time. But the juxtaposed sections of this work tend to last only a few measures before moving on to something new.
