Story Behind the Song
The Song is a rough and unreleased narrative piece featuring the musings of a real-life hardcore street character, telling his side of the Nigerian story, a story of deprivation, poverty, angst and pain and beneath it all that unbending Nigerian spirit of hope- using the native patois a mixture of corrupt English, Native Language and cryptic street slang. In short, I may be a penniless Drug Addict, hustling on the fringes of an unjust society but I believe my spirit shall prevail.
The background music is in the Ariara, Afro-Funk style, made popular by Nigerian Icons like the Funkees and BLO. Listen in particular for the Drums of Eddie Offeyi, probably one of Nigeria's best but most unsung Drummers and the Talking Drum expoits of Tijani.
