Fun little diddy about a would be rock and roll hero | MP3.com CD: Excitable Gods Need A Producer - buy it!

Story Behind the Song
Again, I sat with Robbie going over the song, said I wanted a "twangy Nashville" sort of sound, he picked up on the Buddy HOlly/Beatley sort of jive that felt good, so we walked over and did the take with condensor mike and him plugging in straight to his fender amp i do believe; tubeless no less. The vocals aren't quite right, but the gist is there... The song's about this guy I know who is an awesome guitar player that I wanted to put togetehr songs with, but he kept blowing me off, finally I had enough and the line "he fucking put the nail in the coffin" came to mind the last time he blew me off; i always felt like he was the "arteest" anyway. Great thing it happened too, as I ended up placing an ad for muscicians to jam some songs with, and found Robbie, thus all this great music was born. The guy is really a nice guy, and I'm not nearly as mad as this song makes me out to be, truly. It's also for me my own tribute to The Stones "Dead Flowers" So, thank you Bart, may you one day make it big after all, and please don't take it to heart with this or go out drinking or do anything else stupid over it!!!
Lyrics
I thought you made it in Memphis
Or maybe it was New York
Playing in that big band
Now you drive a car in Phoenix
All the girls they loved you
Everyone adored you
Everybody loved you
Now those days are gone
What went wrong Mr Sunshine
What happened at the banquet
Why is it sometimes sure things do not happen
You said you were gonna put up
Just had to do it and shut up
But you couldn't or you wouldn't
Now you can't
You put the nail in the coffin
Put the nail in the coffin
Put the nail in the coffin
Oh the nail in the coffin
Oh it's signed sealed delivered
Like booze to the liver
Oh it's signed sealed delivered
Yeah oh signed sealed delivered
(from "put the nail..." on do twice, with the sort of "and I won't forget to put roses round your grave" type of feeling)
