Story Behind the Song
i wrote this song the day after I first met DeVon in january of 2001. here was this old, old guy living in a run down shack of a trailer, with a huge goiter and plenty of missing teeth, and he can't stop talking to you because he has all these ideas running through his head and he's overjoyed to have someone to listen to him. and he's got all these colorful robots he's built, and they are his pride and joy. and he was in the guinness book of world records for hitchhiking, and he was once on the groucho marx show, and now here he was in western pa, old, living in poverty and absolutely disinterested in stopping for a second. that was inspiring. DeVon passed away on may 31, 2003. i wish i would have shared this song with him.
