Story Behind the Song
I wrote this song kind of by accident. I stole to mail riff from a friend after he didn't want it, and I kind of just peiced the rest of the music together over the last four years.
The lyrics I wrote in three days, while sitting in my 8:00 class at college Spring Quarter 2003. Most of it's just dreaming and wanting to go out to the green the third story classroom overlooked. It was bright and sunny out there, and I wanted to go lay in the grass!
We recorded the song in our friend, Jonny's, house. He has a Motu 896 FireWire with his Mac G4. It was great, Bob (the Drummer) was set up in the living room, while Nick (Guitars), running through a POD, Tony, running his bass straight in, and me (Adam - Vocals and Lead Guitar), using my Fender HotRod Deluxe, in Jonny's bedroom. We only had enough headphones for four of us, so Tony had to play with out being able to hear Nick or himself. He could hear my vocals, my guitar and Bob ambiantly.
We did it in two takes. I over-dubed my solo and backing vocals, other then that it's all in one take.
Lyrics
Verse 1:
What if I had just one penny?
I think I'd buy a hat for you.
But, if I had a whole lot of money,
I'd change it all. You know it's true.
Chorus:
What if we lived in a French Movie?
What if we could dance on the beach and by free?
I just want to go simming in the sea,
And not get cold.
Verse 2:
Florecent bulbs burn my vision.
The outside calls, "Come fly away!"
I've never owned a beastie cannon.
But, it's peg and patch on Pirate Day!
Bridge:
I know they say, "Your head's in the clouds."
But, they're just trying to hide!
What if we could do what they couldn't do?
What if we could touch the sky?
