Story Behind the Song
This Grateful Dead Classic was inspired by drummer Mickey Harts Father running off with the bands money. He was found some 10 or so years later baptising people in a lake in Nevada.
I've been singing this solo at the open mic's, here's my full blown version.
Lyrics
Rat in a drain ditch, caught on a limb
you know better but I know him
Like I told you, what I said
steal your face right off your head
now he's gone, like a steam locomotive rolling down the tracks, he's gone, and nothing's gonna bring him back, he's gone
Cat on a tin roof, dogs in a pile,
nothing left to do but smile, smile smile
9 miles skiding, on a ten mile ride
hot as a pistol but cool inside
now he's gone.....
going where the wind don't blow soo strange
maybe up on some hi cold mountain train
lost one round but the prize wasn't anything
a knife in the back and more of the same
