Story Behind the Song
it would be easy to believe that the motivation for this work came from someone on the starship enterprise, but actually the title is just a throw-away until a better one can be found. in reality, the theme here was to make from one initial synthesised sample (created with the program metasynth) a logarithmic scale of time-transformations, from short to long. this being done, the mezzo and macro structure(s) of the work could then be addressed. this was done by using a simple two part, a/a' form, with the center silence "offset" at 2/3 of the total length of the work. during the span of the work, 5 levels of distance/closeness are used, as well as various antiphonal pannings.
