    Story Behind the Song
The verse for the song was something that I'd been playing around with for years, and I just needed a bridge and refrain to complete the song... which I did about 5 years later.

    Lyrics
    I WON'T BE THE ONE

    1. Starin' out the window on a rainy day
Wishin' the sun was shinin' down on me
Used to shine so bright I had to turn my eyes, love was burnin' my insides
But I never felt so free

Used to be you counted me among your friends
Till I came to you to help me through my fears
Something made you so afraid you stayed away, you left me there to fade away
    You never saw my tears

Now you got your own life and you know I've got mine
So you call me when you think the coast is clear, and it's safe to reappear
But I won't be the one who you run to
When you're just thinkin' you'd like a friend, those days have ended
I can't let you come back and break my heart again

    2. Maybe someday there'll be something we could share
Maybe there was a reason for that love
But when you call it just brings it all right back to me, all those mixed up memories
I tried so hard to rise above

There's so much inside my heart I can't let show
That long ago I needed you to see -- now you wanna be a friend to me
But I won't be the one who you run to
When you want someone to hang around, just let me down in the end
I'm not gonna let you come and break my heart again
