Occasionally, but not very often, someone will inspire me. Usually it's another musician, or a great book... something that I really, truly identify with. As though they are in some way reflections of different parts of myself. This song is about such a feeling. |

Story Behind the Song
This song was written the morning after I had attended a performance of a very talented musician. I know I'm not the only one this particular musician had an affect on, since I could hear the drool, from everyone in the room, splashing to the floor...
in any case, I went home feeling a certain feeling. It's hard to explain really, but sometimes I meet people, and simply because of who they are- the type of person or a talent they possess, I feel torn inside out. It is as though I see definitive reflections of parts of myself in them, and it scares the bejebus out of me sometimes... and sometimes it inspires me. Obviously the latter happened in this case.
It's a song about looking at someone and seeing how you think they relate to your self.
Lyrics
In a dark and smoky room
I gave you my eyes
I gave you my soul
And you carried on the Tune
Full of life
Full of loss
*And oh my love
The heart beats with a rhythm all it's own
And I carry you in mine
It's a touch of grace that hides it here
All within a glance
Like a pool of water reflecting
It holds the pale blue sky
It holds you and I together
Like a glimpse of something that may never be
*
And in you I find
The piper dances high and blind
Into the silence that pervades a lonely soul
Some day when green is grey
And all the laughter fades away
You'll remain with me and never let me go
