Story Behind the Song
I wrote the song in the summer of 99 in Skopje Macedonia, a couple months after the NATO bombing stopped. I had already been impressed during my stay there with so many young people in the Balkans of whatever ethnic background, in their positive attitude and desire for peace. The word "Kaze" seemed like a good way to write about peace.
The guitar parts were all recorded in Belgrade in Feb or March of 2000, I added vocals later in Hong Kong.
Lyrics
KAZE
1. Tell me where you're going
Tell me where you been
Start at the beginning
Take it to the end
Tell me 'bout the Balkans
What's it gonna be?
You lookin' for some freedom
I think you found the key
Open your lips let your words come out
Stay calm brother, no need to shout
Kosovo, Serbia, Albania, Greece,
You sayin' "Kaze" -- talkin' bout your Peace, yeah, your Peace
2. Tell me 'bout your troubles
I don't wanna fight
Don't make your trouble double
Rubble in the Balkans not a pretty sight
Your land is your mystery
Your language is your clue
I follow in your footsteps
You walkin' in my shoes now
Open your lips let your words come out
Settle down sister, no need to shout
You crossin' all the borders from Greece to Nis, sayin' "Kaze" -- talkin' bout your Peace, yeah, your Peace
3. Dobro Macedonia
You tiny little land
You teach me how to listen
I try to understand
Tell me if you need me
I never walk away
You gonna make a future
Gonna make heaven on earth here one day
Open your heart let that love pour out
You show me what livin' together's all about
You makin' those good vibrations increase
you sayin' "Kaze," -- talkin' bout your Peace, yeah...
