Story Behind the Song
The Balkans is actually a very friendly place, as one can guess from the infectiously happy voices in the song. I like the sound of Serbian, Macedonian and Albanian languages. Okay there's some English in there too, as well as my Chinese teacher in Belgrade, bless her. One nice thing in the song that I think Balkan people might notice is the juxtaposition of the Serbian word for peace "mir" with the Albanian greeting that contains the same sound: "Mirdita." If only we had found a way for these people, who after all had lived together for hundereds of years, to avoid the recent fighting. If only...
