Story Behind the Song
I'm sure we've all experienced this, and I hope this song can remind us to communicate better with our friends and not let the sun go down on our anger. It is better not to give bitterness the chance to start and take root as it can destroy friendships. So remember, if your words spoken in haste and anger are still floating around, put them to bed before the sun sets. Don't let them linger.
Lyrics
There have been many days
Where I know I was to blame
For words I let escape
That made you hang your head in shame
Well I wish I knew way back then
What I have learned now my friend
That there is a better way
Just take care of it before the end of the day
For the sun is starting to go down
But my words are still hanging around
And I've got to put them in their bed
Oh, before the sun sets
Lie, lie, lie, lie, lie, lie
All those words I spoke in anger
Lie, lie, lie, lie, lie, lie
Can't let them linger
Such a tiny, little thing
Old bitterness would have you think
Just to take hold and make a home
For all the pain that this life brings
But there is no greater lie
Set to steal all the joy in your life
For that's why he came and died
So you could put that heavy burden aside
Now the sun is starting to go down
So if your words are still hanging around
It's time to put them in their bed
Oh, before the sun sets
Lie, lie, lie, lie, lie, lie
All those words you spoke in anger
Lie, lie, lie, lie, lie, lie
Don't let them linger
