Story Behind the Song
One day Graham was expanding his musical horizons by looking through Mel Bay's big book of guitar chords, when he first became aware of the appeal of the transition from D to D7 to Ddim. Graham was so proud that he knew such interesting chords that he wrote a whole song to celebrate his musical genius. It kind of sucked. At least the words did. Undeterred, Graham played this groundbreaking chord progression for Richard and suggested that he write some words and a melody to accompany it. Richard did just that, and thus was born the track that would come to define the essence of Graham's basement at the end of the millennium.
Lyrics
take, take the money and run
and leave this
and leave this
hold, hold your head high
and leave this
and leave this
take, take the money and run you say
well, I might take you up on that someday
take, take the money and run
when life gets you down
and you're hanging around
make, make the most of your time
'cause life marches on
and tomorrow will dawn
take, take the money and run you say
and leave your critics behind
leave this city tonight
away from them
away from me
you, you deserve all you have
believe it
believe it
take, take the money and run you say
and take the chance to start anew again
