The second song to reach demo form, it is more groove-oriented, though it does have a sort of chaotic blast beat solo. |
Credits: Lyrics: John Ziegler; Music: Epithet |
Story Behind the Song
The motivation for thelyrics here is an odd mix of Dissection's "Where Dead Angels Lie" and _The Never-ending Story_. It was a song which John had previously demoed alone, before Epithet, and which took on further dimensions and underwent some paring down with the contributions of the rest of the band. The solo is of the "happy accident" category-not wanting to lose a first take, we recorded a second, which we then played at the same time as the first, swearing that it was just for fun and would never be used-until we heard it.
Lyrics
A chill wind is blowing
Alive, elastic, flowing
A herald of the tide
Extinguishing the light
Like a curtain it's absorbing
Throwing heaven from its mooring
As the closing marches forth
Laying shadow on the earth
Chorus: The flowers pale before the breeze
And wither by the leafless trees
The frost grows thick upon the ground
Angelic/Fallen/World of dead are icy mounds
And the growing sun can't reach our eyes
Through the funeral veil of darkening skies
Darkening skies
A wall of black is flying
There is no more horizon
Nothing where it's been
Vice-like, swallowing
Birds like hail descending
The web of life it's rending
A deadly shade of night
With all of Nature's might
Chorus
Circle fast is closing
Existence disappearing
Gone are heaven, hell
A deeper power sounds the knell
The darkness it is slowing
Reaching where it's going
And then, without a noise
The edges meet and join
Chorus
