Story Behind the Song
This started out as a guitar exercise, I like the polyrhythms in the guitar part and the way they disguise where the beat is. That makes it nice for Peter's djembe part to define the beat. I thought the melody of the guitar part worked well with the constant 16th notes in the guitar. The tuning is standard, except for the high strings, which are tuned down to B and A respectively. It was an instrumental until I thought it might be a nice time to write and sing something nice about my little girl. I hope you like it.
Lyrics
MELANIE
Smiles and sunshine don't define my little China girl
Laughing eyes can't analyze my little China girl
When her growing tears are dry the sky's too small to hold her
Come away Melanie, oh please don't grow so fast
Come away Melanie -- I'll make your magic last
Won't you play now Melanie -- I pray it's not too late
Come away, hey now Melanie -- your dreamin' time can wait
Come and play play play...
