Story Behind the Song
Phil sent me a beautiful poem in spring 2002 that I tried my best not to ruin as I adapted it into a love song. I was very pleased that Phil didn't mind what I did to the lyric, condensing a bit here, adding an image there, to make it fit a melody and structure that I thought would work to highlight the song. Here's the demo version.
Lyrics
GENTLE SURRENDER
1. In a moment's passing I see your shadow drifting slowly
In the darkness, through a passage you somehow found somewhere inside me
You take your arrow and your bow, fixed upon your goal
And in a language only you and I know, shoot a message to my soul
I ask for her hand, she gives it gladly
I ask for her love in gentle surrender
2. In a moment's passing I hear the bells; gently they ring
And with the sound the ground softly receives her wrapped in angel's wings
I ask for her hand, she gives it gladly
I ask for her love in gentle surrender
3. Come pierce my heart with your radiant smile
Hold me forever, then hold me once again for just a little while
I ask for her hand, she gives it gladly
I ask for her love in gentle surrender
c) Paul Meredith, 2002
