Story Behind the Song
Philip Read is a wonderful artist and poet from Canada, now teaching in the US. He brought me a group of poems that he'd written and asked me to adapt them to music.
I think Share the Sun has a great lyric, and it was fun to try to find a musical style and expression to try to fit these words. I'm pleased with the results so far, and hope to post more collaborations with Phil in the future.
I finished the song in November 2001, and recorded this demo in May 2002 in Hong Kong.
Lyrics
SHARE THE SUN
1. In times of darkness, I'll care for you
In times of trouble, I'll care for you
I'll care for you
We are the light that shares the sun
Our hearts are beating as if for one
2. In times of sadness, I'll take your hand
In times of laughter, I'll watch you smile
I'll watch you smile
We are the light that shares the sun
Our hearts are beating as if for one
3. And when it's raining I'll keep you dry
And when you're washing I'll wipe your skin
And when you're sleeping I'll watch you breathe
And when you awaken I'll brush your hair
I'll brush your hair
(You know I'm always gonna be there)
We are the light that shares the sun
Our hearts are beating as if for one
