Story Behind the Song
The song was the last song written for Shadows of Belgrade, and I felt that it kind of softened the edge and anger from the previous song in a meaningful way. Among so many personal and heartfelt songs on the record, I guess this might be the most. I "wrote" the music in my head during Chinese New Year 2001, during a long run on the beach in Malaysia. I guess one never knows where ideas will come from...
The F# tuning on the 3rd string added a bit of warmth to the guitars, and I liked the slide guitar part, as well as the slow tempo in 3. I hope people find some healing in the song, as I did in writing and performing it.
Lyrics
MAKE PEACE
1. Your revolution's over -- you've won
But there's a war inside still raging, not yet done
Make peace with yourselves, make peace with each other
Don't let this chance go, don't know if there'll be another
Make peace
2. Your reconciliation no man can direct
Takes more than proclamations to make hearts connect
Your peace not on any piece of paper
And you're right if you say I can't understand
But if it's not in your heart gonna slip away like vapor
Your peace bigger than any piece of land
You rejected the East, resisted the West
Now you just want peace but you got to face a spiritual test
Make peace with yourselves, make peace with each other
Don't let this chance go, don't know if there'll be another
Make peace
