    Story Behind the Song
Hal Glatzer, writer of the Audie Award winning "Too Dead to Swing" and the creative force behind the bi-coastal Audio Playwrights, gave me a call one day and said he had some scripts to show me. "I know you folks enjoy short format projects. I've written two mysteries, each ten minutes long."

I was intrigued ... it certainly must have been difficult for Hal to craft a full mystery that plays out in only ten minutes. But ... "What the --?!" What grabbed my attention was how each and every line in the script was comprised of tongue-twisting alliterations. Not only that, but the mysteries were neat and tidy, and actually made sense. I immediately told Hal we were on board.

The assembled cast showed great enthusiasm -- this is exactly the type of challenge that excites voice actors. The key in my mind was to get beyond the pure technical interest of the tongue-twisters, to leave that transparent to the listener while the story was being told. Before long we were making our way through the scripts without too many flubs and goofy consonant transpositions that left us laughing hysterically and cut into our rehearsal time. We expected hilarious outtakes that could be saved for playback at our lifetime achievement award, but in the studio there were very few mistakes, testament to the cast's work ethic and talent.

I think we have done our job well. Listening to the finished piece, there are long stretches where you may not be particularly aware of the alliterations ... but believe us, they're there. Take the script and perform it with your friends. You'll see.
