Story Behind the Song
The songs was developed in the recording studio, and was built off of the rhythm guitar. The bass player and the drummer have never even met each other, so the over all songs structure was overseen by Michael Tiffany and Paul Mallard.
The lyrics deal with the pain of love, that has fallen into the pit of ruin. The song was written while it was recorded basically, which was recorded over about a four month period. Michael Tiffany had the basic rhythm line developed, several years before 1997, however. The song went through several line ups of musicians before this version was made, and in it's three different forms there may have been more than fifty takes before completion.
Lyrics
First Verse:
It was only a year ago, when the story was true. I was longing for your love, I didn't know what to do. In everywhere I saw your face, I was out of my mind. A love like yours so hard to take, was so hard to find. An emptiness dwells deep within, such a state of confusion. But a drug as strong as love, only creates an illusion.
First Bridge:
The hands from hell grabbed my neck, and pulled me back to the ground. I yelled for help still none could hear my fate, all by myself no one around.
Second Verse:
This pain is so hard to take, I'm ready to leave this space. No longer to be found, and nothing to leave a trace. So spread open those silvery clouds, and open those pearly gates. Relieve me of all my pain, lead me to my fate. I felt myself going up, the clouds began swell. My spirit finally has risen up, as far as I could tell.
Second Bridge:
The hands from hell grabbed my neck, and pulled me back to the ground. Still none could hear my fate, all by myself no one around.
Third Verse:
It was only a year ago, when the story was true. I was longing for your love, I didn't know what to do. In everywhere I saw your face, I was out of my mind. A love like yours so hard to take, was so hard to find. An emptiness dwells deep within, such a state of confusion. But a drug as strong as love, only creates an illusion.
Third Bridge:
The hands from hell grabbed my neck, and pulled me back to the ground. I yelled for help still none could hear my fate, all by myself no one around.
