A simple love song about wishing for someone's heart.
CD: On My Own   Label: Hermco Music
Credits: written; composed; and performed by Herman Forstmann. Mixed by Paul-Alex.

    Story Behind the Song
I read a story by Yoko Ono one time (I believe it was released on her Rising album); and it contained a reference to a story about a child folding 1000 paper cranes to make a wish. The child died before he/she completed 1000 cranes. I KNEW it was the perfect title for a song the instant I read it; only my song would have a more optimistic theme than the story of that poor child!

    Lyrics
Am I wishing my life away
Calling on the stars to take my pains
Asking God for far too much
And folding one thousand paper cranes

Am I being naive or wise
To believe in the old refrain
That if you want to make a wish
You've gotta fold one thousand paper cranes

Onward and forth I fold and fold
To see my wish come true
And even though it's getting old
It is worth 'the strain' for you

A shooting star or a wishing well
May not bring me any gains
Will putting pennies on a rail
I'm folding one thousand paper cranes

Or am I wishing my life away
Calling on the stars to take my pains
Asking God for far too much
And folding one thousand paper cranes

    Instrumental break

Am I patient enough to wait
Until the day I see the fabled gains
    It's taking just too long
Folding these one thousand paper cranes

There is hope in my heart; for sure
Even if it's just a few grains
Guess there's no need to be demure
'Bout folding one thousand paper cranes

After a few I tired out
    My heart began to sink
But when I see you; there's no doubt
In my heart; I'm tickled pink

Nine hundred fifty cranes are done
Fifty more to make my wish come true
Then you'll tell me I'm 'the only one'
And I'll live my dream with you

Or am I wishing my life away
Calling on the stars to take my pains
Asking God for far too much
And folding one thousand paper cranes.
