Story Behind the Song
This was written in a night, when J. and I first met. With nearly two decades difference in age between us, and as enamoured as I was by the beauty of that youthful face and body, our love seemed as likely as finding a needle in a haystack... or stardust in the leaves.
Lyrics
Stardust in the Leaves
John Taylor
Wish I was young as your desire
Could spark the flame that you most seek.
Images floating in the fire
Can't warm your heart
Or change the way you need.
I'll be your beauty, or another
As you are mine, through spells you cast.
Tonight you told them all I was your lover
But the gem was only paste, not made to last.
I'm drinking from the
Fountain of youth - with wrinkled hands.
Counting up all the grains of sand.
Wishing upon a star so far that I can't see,
Wishing all your dreams were found in me,
Searching for stardust in the leaves.
No one can say what comes the morrow,
But it's the lack that harries me.
So great the distance, small the sorrows
Twenty years early on the tree.
It's not regret I bring before you
Just songs I know cannot be sung.
We're far to precious for those blue hues -
Everyone wants what can't be won.
I'm drinking from the
Fountain of youth - with wrinkled hands.
Counting up all the grains of sand.
Wishing upon a star so far that I can't see,
Wishing all your dreams were found in me,
Searching for stardust in the leaves.
Wishing upon a star so far that I can't see,
Wishing all your dreams were found in me,
Searching for stardust in the leaves.
