Story Behind the Song
Of course, you'd like to say that a song like this was motivated by a deeply personal experience--well partly. Alysson wrote this song, intially, because her jazz piano teacher told her to write a song in the key of E, and keep in mind the rests were important. She really liked the tune, and played it live at many shows, changing the lyrics to fit the moment. They only became fixed when she was forced into the studio to record the song. Everything is one take, except the bridge that went well in every show, but just didn't seem to come our right in the studio until Bill Baucom said "Just belt it out". So she did.
Lyrics
The pine trees are blowing
With the winds of your hurricane
Moving me to wash away the memories of you
The summer of looking glass answers
Looking back at what I did wrong
But what good is it, 'cause I'll never be there again
Where does it go from here?
Down the path of inspiration
Thank you for the gifts you gave
But I haven't learned how to not forgive you
Falling down, falling into desert air
Down a rabbit hole when you
Fell our of my constellations
Where does it go from here?
Where you go, you're watching me
Don't leave me alone
We're walking down this path
Yeah, I see it here
And we're going hand in hand
I'll never know just where this path will lead
But I know there is an end
And don't you love me
I want to tear
Every word that you've ever said
Out of the sky, I can learn to live without you
Where does it go from here?
