Dark melodic guitar rock... This song is based on the idea that every generation tries to distance itself from previous generations, refusing to be held within the confines of the old social structures, but trades places in the end, itself becoming the old.

Story Behind the Song
This song is based on the observation that every generation (while basically the same) tries to distance itself from previous generations and prove it's own unique worth by establishing it's own values and social structures.
The title was inspired by a Ray Bradbury story and Luke 5:37 in the bible (this is by no means 'religious rock' just a literary reference) where it states that 'new wine cannot be held by an old wineskin' due to the pressures of the fermentation process. My point is that the newer generation always refuses to be held within the confines of the old social structures but always ends up trading places in the end and itself becoming the 'old' over time. For the moment, we are the new wine...
This was written/recorded on October 21, 2002 at Basement Studios.
Lyrics
We Are The New Wine
© (p) 2002 Daniel A. Watkins
I’ve felt every drop of rain that’s fallen through the air
I’ve climbed every tower that’s reached for the stars or anywhere
I’ve felt as numb as any soul that’s walked on this earth
We are the new wine – and like the old wine
Lock on to something pure and new
And real to construct and refine
While we tear apart the memory of old times
And miss the irony that every time
We build newer brittle walls, paint them bright and watch them fall
We are the new wine – so like the old wine
I understand every creature that’s run scared through these woods
Cold alone hungry hunted empty frightened and displaced
But we shrug off every bit of thought, preferring every door stay shut
Tell me which is really worse – to ignore or outright fight the will of the devine?
We are the old wine – unlike the old wine
Remove the past from all our view
And our hearts and our souls and our minds
While we tear apart the memory of old times
And miss the irony that every time
We build newer brittle walls, build them well and watch them fall
So now the new wine – has become the old wine
Generations rise and fall
Have a piece, have them all…
We are the new wine… We are the new wine…
We are the new wine… We are the new wine…
