Because every chick singer needs at least one bitter breakup song...this is mine.
    CD: Demo.   Label: Indie.
Credits: Words and music written and performed by Tari Follett; recorded at Studio Dick.

    Story Behind the Song
Post breakup, everybody pictures the jerk who dumped them ten years later, crying in his/her beer over what a mistake it was to drop such an amazing person. As I see it, it's sort of a cross between Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" and Randy Travis' "Matter of Time."

This recording itself reminds me why I like working with other players - the guitar feels very stripped down, very bare...I would love to add some drums, some violins maybe, a little synth - but I think this version gets the point across acceptably.

    Lyrics
    (verse 1)
    I cried a few tears
When you told me the news
But I spent the past month
    Getting over you
So I couldn't really be too sad
    When you finally said goodbye
    It's about time
You put an end to all the lies

And I'll admit it stings a little
    Being left behind
Knowing the truth of all the games
    You played with my mind
    But out of sheer self-respect
And what's left of my pride
I'll spare you an account of what
    I'm feeling inside

    (Chorus)
I'm not sorry I took the risk
Kinda figured things would end like this
But I do feel sorry for you
That's one thing I can say
'Cause you'll always be just one more jerk I left behind,
But I'm gonna be the one that got away.

    (verse 2)
No matter how I feel now
    I'll get over it
    My heart will mend
It won't bother me a bit
    But someday you're gonna realize
    What it is you had
    And what you lost
When you treated me so bad

    (Repeat Chorus three times)
