This is the farewell song on the CD. It's a gentle acoustic song with a simple melody. The song has a strong celtic influence, though the finger-style guitar playing is entirely folk.

    Story Behind the Song
This song is a declaration of determination in the midst of difficult circumstances. The journey of life has many unpredictable ups and downs, and the only way to get through it is to keep putting one foot in front of the other.

The melody and structure of the song was written in a little more than an hour one evening, which is a rare thing for me. Originally I had a different set of lyrics, but I re-wrote them and re-recorded the vocals at the very end of the recording process.

    Lyrics
The road goes ever on and on and on
The road goes ever on and on and on
The road goes ever on and on
    The journey only just began
A thousand miles may lie beyond
But I will walk them if I can

On and on and on and on and on
On and on and on and on and on

The road goes ever on and on and on
The road goes ever on and on and on
I have the sun to be my guide
The wind shall clear the lonely way
‘Til all that’s passed is far behind
But what’s ahead, I cannot say

On and on and on and on and on
On and on and on and on and on

If a dark night should come my way
I’ll hum a new tune ‘til the break of day
And if a sorrow cloud should fall
Each step shall lead the next one on
The clouds will break, the sun appear
I’ll leave behind the day of tears
I’ll leave behind the day of tears

On and on and on and on and on
On and on and on and on and on

The road goes ever on and on and on
The road goes ever on and on and on
The road goes ever on and on
    The journey only just began
A thousand miles may lie beyond
But I will walk them if I can

    Every morning I will rise
Walk through cold or rain or heat
Until one day I see the light
Eternal rest and sleep to meet

On and on and on and on and on
On and on and on and on and on
